    In the Guitar Design & Blueprint course the student will produce a full size plan of their own original stringed instrument design.

    No drawing skills required.

    In-depth lectures will educate the student to expertly manipulate every variable of stringed instrument design. The student’s personal aspirations for their ideal stringed instrument will be manifested into this drawing. A treasure map, if you will.

  • Guitar Making

    During the course of these workshops, students will make their own electric guitar completely from scratch using raw materials and the time tested methods of luthier Ian Schneller. Students may also use this time to continue work on their Acoustic Guitar making.

    Students will learn how to shape their guitar’s neck and body, install the truss rod, install all hardware and much more. At the end of this multi-step process students will have a wonderful creation that fulfills their own unique vision.

    The Guitar Repairs and Restoration workshop presents essential procedures for a variety of repairs addressing damage, aging, and wear on any stringed instrument – acoustic and electric – in a hands on workshop.

    In addition to observing a variety of shop repairs, students are encouraged bring their own instruments to repair with guidance from an experienced luthier. In fact, realizing repairs on student instruments often more than offsets the cost of tuition!

  • Open Workshop

    Open workshops offer students the freedom to schedule their preferred hours to work on a project at their own pace.

    Students often continue work on acoustic or electric builds, fretwork, finishing, or electronic projects.

    This is an hourly, pay as you go, opportunity for students to continue their studies. There are also blocks of time available for purchase at considerable savings. These blocks can be used incrementally for prescheduled sessions already listed on the calendar or for other time slots made by appointment.

    Arrangements are made on a case by case basis and generally take place during regular business hours which are noon until seven Tuesday through Friday. Evening hours and weekends that do not appear on the calendar are often available

    Students pay a flat rate for access to a Luthiers Station and and the vast collection of shop tools and fixtures. Oversight and instruction is always available to the student during open shop time.

  • Acoustic Guitar Making

    My Acoustic Guitar Making Workshop begins your journey of learning luthiery.  Students will make their own Martin 000 style acoustic guitar from an excellent kit with the guidance of an experienced luthier.  This course offers the perfect initiation to luthiery and acoustic guitar making.

    Students will learn fundamental workshop skills and advanced techniques required to build a fine acoustic stringed instrument. 

    We will cast a wide net into the realm of woodworking, with a finished guitar as proof of application.

    The student will be ready to make an original design of an instrument from scratch after completing this acoustic guitar.

    No drawing skills or shop experience required.

    Students work at their own pace and may require more time to finish their acoustic guitar project. They may choose to continue the work at home or at the school in our Open Workshops or our Guitar Making Workshops

  • Acoustic Guitar Making 5 Day Summer Camp

    This 5 day, 35 hour immersion course offers the student the opportunity to build their own Martin-style 000 guitar with instruction from luthier and CSGM founder Ian Schneller. The workshop is structured to guide the student through every essential phase of acoustic guitar making. Taking advantage of specially designed luthiery workbenches, luthiery tools and fixtures, and the expertise of CSGM luthiers is a special opportunity.

    Please note: While it is possible for a student to complete a first acoustic guitar build within 40 hours, it is highly unlikely. Each student will work and develop their skills at their own pace.  Students may continue their work at home, or at the school in either our Guitar Making Workshops and Open Workshops,  which offer access to further instruction and the fully equipped workspace at CSGM.

    This course comprehensive luthiery course is structured to guide the student through every phase of the acoustic guitar making process.     This course offers all of the luthiery workshops necessary to completing any string instrument, including: Acoustic Guitar Making WorkshopFretting Workshop, Bone Nut and Saddle Making Workshop and Guitar Set-up and Maintenance Seminar where the student can achieve complete precision in these essential luthiery processes. This course also includes 14 hours of training and hands on work in Guitar Making Workshops.

  • Tube Amp Making: Stereo Hi-Fi

    Instruction Book for Specimen Single Ended Stereo Tube Amp

    This amp circuit is derived from the classic single-ended designs that began in the 1930s. This design is by Ian Schneller. The Baltic Birch frame completes this tube amp beautifully. The layout of this tube amplifier is simple and elegant, but most of all timeless, very well built, and great sounding!

    You can plug just about anything into this amp’s input with great results. For listening to vinyl you will need a phono preamp.

    If you have ever been interested in building your own high fidelity, single-ended triode tube amplifier, but felt that it was a daunting and mysterious task, then wait no longer. This class removes all the mystery and will guide you through the entire process.

    Once you have built this circuit, you will be on your way to gaining the skills necessary to start designing and building your own DIY audio creations. Or just sit back and enjoy the music.
