    Please note that all registrations are final and non-refundable.

    In the event that a student cannot attend a class, written notice must be given in advance to receive a credit to be used on another tuition. Valid credit may be transferred to another course date, or to another student, if so desired.

  • Classroom

    Class size is limited to 8 students.

    Course is taught in a professional guitar service shop equipped with 8 individual workbenches stocked with specialized tools necessary for the course work.

  • Workshop Saftey

    While we make every effort to keep the CSGM workshop clean it can be dusty and at times noisy. We recommend hearing, respiratory, and eye protection be used when working in the shop. We have this safety equipment available for use or purchase when in class and it is the students responsibility to exercise diligent use of these safety measures.

  • Parking

    Parking is free on the street directly in front of and in clear view of our building and space.

There comes a time when you have the will and the want, but you need more confidence in your skills to start an acoustic guitar build. This workshop will focus on skill and knowledge building; I want the student to leave with the confidence to begin their build. We will not make a guitar in this workshop; instead, we will focus on the foundational aspects of guitar building, ensuring you are well-prepared for future projects.

My experience has shown there are nine specific stages that can be nerve-racking while building. The workshop will focus on the skills to complete these moments.

The 9 ideas we will focus on:

  • Design, fundamental physics, and materials
  • Bending wood (wood elasticity)
  • Thicknessing materials (initial and final)
  • Rosette making and soundhole physics
  • Tail and neck block gluing
  • Bracing(types and shaping)
  • Attaching neck to body (techniques and geometry)
  • Bridge making (shaping and placement)
  • Finishing(sanding, sealants, shellack, pore fillers, lacquer)

Instructor

Ron Bieganski 

Ron Bieganski has been a teacher of acting and writing for 40 years. He began an apprenticeship at Specimen in 2010 to make something that is not so ephemeral. Over the last 15 years Ron has made works of art that can be hugged and played when he is not around. Ron’s past includes construction work with his father, stained glass making, furniture making, fine arts painting and circus arts. The medium changes, but the approach to mastering a craft is similar.
