Multi-ply checkerboard binding
The thing I love about a Telecaster is that it is such a solid, timeless design, but it is also a blank canvas for all manner of expression.
In this case the custom-made checkerboard binding, the micro-burst into a flaming orange finish on the guitar’s top, and the P-90 Soapbar in the neck position (thanks to Lindy Fralin’s excellent work) help set this instrument apart from the usual fare.
Creating the binding from scratch was quite an adventure. Instead of using pre-fab two dimensional binding, I created my own 3-D checkerboard tiles from wooden sticks normally used for the rosette inlay found on classical guitars. It was an extremely time-consuming process, and something that required specialized fixtures and new processes. Read more about the process in our Blog.
