Butter & Toast Maxwell
Please call 773.489.4830 or email info@specimenproducts.com to discuss details and make arrangements for your commission.
Almost all Specimen Maxwell guitars have NOS Harmony Sovereign fretboards which were purchased from an aged Porsche mechanic; 1200 of them to be exact. He bought them at the liquidation auction of the company. A lucky find. There are still a few left.
This instrument is the only existing Maxwell with a neck pickup. This is pushing the limits of mechanical design to say the least. The butter and toast is just that; slippery and hot. And a little bit crunchy. Very sensitive handling, slightly unstable at high speeds, good for slalom. Acrobatic like an SG.

“Ian custom designed the B&T for me in 2000 after my envy of my pal Wes’ Specimen guitars had reached the breaking point. I own a number of beautiful vintage electric guitars of all makes and models from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and I am not exaggerating when I say that none of them come close to delivering the exquisite bell-like chime and rich sustain of my Maxwell B&T. It actually sounds like it has a butter pat for a bridge pickup. And the tone has only improved with age.”
