Amplifier Repair Technician Program Course Series
This program offers technical training and the essential knowledge base necessary for the amp repair technician.
The student will learn and develop skills through hands-on work on one or more of their own tube amplifiers which will become examples in their portfolio, giving proof of their practice and reference to their learning.
The Tube Amp Diagnostics and Repair I+II courses are intensive seminars providing lectures and demonstrations that will prepare the student for practical applications in the Amplifier Laboratory course, or on their own. The Amplifier Laboratory provides practical applications exercises and hands-on amp repair experiences alongside the opportunity to benefit from the observation of a variety of amp repair problems that students bring to this class.
The courses teach tube electronics principles, amp diagnostic testing, repair analysis, and repair and modification techniques and offers the student hands-on electronics experience and training in three course sections:
Tube Amp Diagnostics and Repair – Fundamentals
Students will gain an understanding of tube electronics and amp troubleshooting fundamentals. Lectures cover an overview of circuit design, components, tools and repair techniques. Demonstrations and discussion will cover a wide scope of repairs. Suggested tools and materials for an emergency repair kit will be outlined. Click here to see the full course description.
Tube Amp Diagnostics and Modifications – Advanced
Students will learn how to get the most out of advanced diagnostic tools and modify tube amps for optimal sound. Lectures cover tube theory, audio circuits, and modification and repair techniques. Demonstrations cover advanced diagnostic tools, testing, repair techniques, and circuit modifications to achieve specific sound characteristics. Q & A – Student questions and discussion covering further study and careers. Click here to see the full course description.
Amp Repair Laboratory – Diagnostics and Repair Problems Hands On Training
Students will perform diagnostics tests, analysis, and amp modification or repair operations on tube amplifiers they bring to class. They will share research findings with the class in preparation for their repair analysis and operations. Students will form an opinion for their own repairs based on their findings, class discussion, and the experience of the instructor. Each student will decide on the course of action for their own amplifiers, acquire necessary parts, and perform repair or modifications procedures under class observation with guidance from the instructor.
