Headstock Repair: SG

This is Bill Dolan’s SG.

It took a fall from grace on a battle stage. It is a particularly nasty compound break. He was ready to throw in the towel after several other shops declined to work on it. Someone pointed him in my direction and he brought it over. I said “No problem Bill, I am sure I can at least make it structurally sound again. I’ll do the best I can”

After cleaning up a bit, I waxed the truss rod threads and cavity. I then injected glue deep into the crevices, hoping for full penetration.

I clamped the break tightly

After cleaning up the joint with sandpaper and dowels, I sprayed primer, then black lacquer, then clear lacquer. After curing for a few days I buffed out the job and reassembled. The repair is invisible.
